Strong Committment for Bioenergy and Regional Development

The groundwork for REGBIE+ is the fact that the most important and prevalent renewable energy source used for heating in the EU is biomass in its various forms. Today bioenergy already contributes about 98% of heat to the EU overall renewables share. But the use of bioenergy still falls way below its potential. The share of bioenergy in the overall energy consumption varies in EU countries from 1 % in the UK to 20 % in Finland.

Regional initiatives bundling measures like marketing, information, training and overall awareness have shown to make a difference regionally regarding the demand and supply of bioenergy.
